The Amagumi Estate. It was certainly a large facility, one expected of those with noble status, with various buildings and wings dedicated to those holding the Amagumi name. Lydia had a walked these very halls throughout her life... though now, being accompanied by the very Guardians she had come to know and trust, as well as a man whom she considered an uncle, she felt nothing but pure and utter embarrassment as she walked. Her head was lowered, long green strands shadowing over her emerald hues. Her ears picked up the hushed whispers and murmurs of accusations, each one ripping a hole through the young woman's chest. Those she had considered family now doubted her... shunned her... it was horrifying.
With her head hung low, Lydia and company were brought through the main chamber and down several hallways. Eventually, Yamato pointed to one of the doors where the two Guardians were to take Lydia. John, however, would be brought to a separate room, obviously to be questioned separately. The tall man turned, adjusting the glasses worn over his eyes as faced him.
"If you will, please," he said as he extended an arm to the room next door. Inside, the room was rather small compared to most others found throughout the estate. Within sat four chairs, two on one side of a table, and two on the other, with a couple of potted plants and little else. The man would follow John inside, wishing to take his statement first. Again, he extended an arm to one of the far sided seats while he himself took the one across. "As much as it pains me to have to accuse one of my own, I am a man of law. I only seek the truth. Now... if you could, please tell me the details of this evening's affair."

John couldn't help feeling humbled by the size, but at the same time, the whispers and accusations towards Lydia he could just barely make out from onlookers, put him on a strange edge.
With her head hung low, Lydia and company were brought through the main chamber and down several hallways. Eventually, Yamato pointed to one of the doors where the two Guardians were to take Lydia. John, however, would be brought to a separate room, where he knew he would obviously be questioned separately.
Yamato followed John inside, wishing to take his statement first. Again, he extended an arm to one of the far sided seats while he himself took the one across. "As much as it pains me to have to accuse one of my own, I am a man of law. I only seek the truth. Now... if you could, please tell me the details of this evening's affair."
"Yes, of course."
---John's recollection of the night before theme---
"Earlier this morning, I received an invitation to a party, there was no name on it, and only stated that it was to be held at the restaurant you meet us at, and at what time it was to start."
John paused for a moment to gather his thoughts and take a breath, he wanted to drag this out for 2 reasons, one was in case the whole thing was somehow riding on him, being the only one who openly stood up for Lydia, and two was to make sure Yamato could clearly hear John's entire account and see that Lydia could not have committed the Murders she was being charged with.
"When I arrived, Lydia was already there, as well as another Shinigami, Timushii... After some brief introduction, we were joined by 2 additional Shinigami, Gosai Hiiragi and... To think about it now, I never got the other ones name... I remember he broke something as he fell off the roof though."
John paused again, but it wasn't for stalling or even dramatic pause, he actually paused because he didn't have the name of the last Shinigami who attended the party, and in a way, that bothered him a little.
John had spent time in the Human world and had watched TV shows about crime, and he knew from them, that a missing witness was a bad thing, he only hoped it wasn't the case here. He decided that the best thing to do, was to dismiss it as useless detail and move on.
"Anyway, you don't care so much about that as you do Lydia anyway, so I won't bother you with the details... Lydia shared with us a lengthy story of her upbringing, and of the Amagumi clan, he father who was a Guardian, as well as her two older twin brothers and some various subjects I'm sure are irrelevant... As I stated earlier, as the party continued, Lydia, who had been seated directly across from me, excused herself to the ladies room..."
John stopped there, he had already decided that to admit he lost sight of her and didn't actually see her return from the ladies room, could be damaging to Lydia, and he decided not to volunteer that information, unless he was directly asked.
The issue now however was John didn't know what else to say, all he could do was baffle him a little bit more by talking about after Lydia returned.
"Once Lydia returned, I noticed and greeted her with a joke, and we shared a few more drinks... She didn't leave again until it was time to depart, and that is where you came in."
That was it, that was all John could say, the rest was in Yamato's hands, as it was now his call, he could 'cross-examine' John and try to find holes in his story, but to that end, there was only one thing that he could find a hole in, and that was John's lack of saying exactly how Lydia was missing.

As the man unveiled the events of the evening, Yamamoto studied his expression, took in every body movement, nervous twitch, and hesitant pause while simultaneously listening in full. When the summary was completed, the investigator paused briefly, allowing a still silence to fall over the room. Only when the tension in the air became thick enough did he lean forward.
"We'll be questioning everyone who attended the party separately to confirm Miss Lydia's alibi, and if you could, provide us with this 'invitation' as well," the man said, then propped his arms up on the table. "Tell me... exactly how long was Miss Lydia gone for... and did anyone else leave the party?"
"I don't think so," Lydia replied, being questioned simultaneously along side the other patrons of the restaurant.
"You don't think, or you don't know," the man replied, his voice a bit more stern than his previous questions.
"I... I don't know..." It was apparent that the noble woman was starting to crack under the pressure. No matter what type of training she underwent as a Shinigami, or the trials she faced within her inner world, nothing could have prepared her for the moment when her own family turned on her. Hands trembling, she began to wipe the moisture from her eyes before the turned into full tears.
"Two waitresses state that you left the party..." the man asked. "And didn't come back at least thirty minutes later. That's ample time to get from the restaurant to here and back with time to spare... especially those with your skills."
"I only stepped out to get some fresh air," the woman countered. "Then, a boy came up to me searching for his pet."
"Yes, yes," the man nodded, though obvious that he wasn't believing a single word Lydia had confessed. "A small child with blond hair and blue eyes. Unfortunately, our search for this kid has brought up nothing; within a six block radius, there are only two children that fit that description, and both were at home with their parents."
"It's the truth!" Lydia cried out, the situation hastily escalating faster than she could keep up.
"Well, what about your sword?" he countered with ease. "Witnesses put you with your sword when you showed up at the restaurant. But, you didn't have it on you when we picked you up... but instead, find it at the crime scene. How is that possible?"
"I... I don't know!"
"There are a lot of things you seem to 'not know,' Miss Lydia." The man was now standing up, palms to the table, and leaning in close to the defenseless Shinigami.
"S-Someone could h-have taken... it w-while I wasn't... looking." Lydia was grasping at straws. The stress of the situation was starting to cloud her mind, and the alcohol certainly was no aid to the situation. She felt physically and emotionally sick.
"Right, right," again, the man nodded over dramatically, hands raised to the air as he walked a circle around the table. "Maybe it was that boy, or maybe his cat who took it and used it to brutally attack Hachiru-sama, and leave him to die in pool of his own blood!"
Her entire body was trembling at this point. Her vision became blurry and she no longer could control her own breathing. This... this wasn't happening. Hachiru-sama... he had been like a close uncle to her. Her own family now believe that she, of all people, could commit such a heinous act? Where was mother, and father... wouldn't someone come and tell them she couldn't have done this?! | ![[image] [image]](http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a345/gohanstrife/NewLydiaPostBottom.jpg) |

Only when the tension in the air became thick enough did he lean forward.
"We'll be questioning everyone who attended the party separately to confirm Miss Lydia's alibi, and if you could, provide us with this 'invitation' as well,"
The man said, then propped his arms up on the table. John didn't like the tone in his voice when he said 'invitation' more so because it actually made it feel, to John, that Yamato didn't believe that an invitation existed, and that actually made it sound like he thought everyone gathered was somehow involved.
"Tell me... exactly how long was Miss Lydia gone for... and did anyone else leave the party?"
A cold sweat swept over John at that point, that was the one question he hoped he would ask. John took a deep breath and reached into his robe to get the invitation, hopefully he could stall for more time this way.
"The Invitation is right here, I kept it just in case i needed proof I was invited to the party, and I kept it as a 'souvenir' of sorts."
John slid it across the table to Yamato before speaking again.
"I'm, not sure... I wasn't paying attention to the time, I just know she wasn't gone long... I do know however that no one else from our group left the party."
"Two waitresses state that Miss Lydia left the party... And didn't come back till at least thirty minutes later. That's ample time to get from the restaurant to here and back with time to spare... especially those with your skills."
"By 'my' skills I assume you mean 'Shinigami' skills... But just because she was gone for 30 minutes doesn't prove anything, maybe she simply stepped out for some fresh air and lost track of time."
John was trying to cast reasonable doubt, but he could tell from the look on Yamato's face it wasn't working, John could tell that, somehow, he was already convinced that Lydia was guilty, and was waiting for just one more piece of evidence to declare he such.
"Well, what about her sword?"
he countered with ease.
"Witnesses put her with her sword when she showed up at the restaurant. But, she didn't have it on her when we picked you all up... but instead, find it at the crime scene. How is that possible?"
"...I don't know... I mean, isn't it possible that SOMEONE else could have taken it from her when she wasn't looking?"
John wasn't sure what to say anymore, the more he thought about it himself now, the more it all pointed to Lydia, the more he spoke to Yamato, the more guilty Lydia sounded, but he still had his gut feeling, that feeling she was innocent.
"She went to the ladies room, maybe someone grabbed it when she was in there."
He hoped that would draw some doubt, but instead, John could tell, Yamato had finally lost his patience with him.
"Right, right, Maybe it was someone else who took a Zanpakuto, belonging to Miss Lydia, and used it to brutally attack Hachiru-sama, and leave him to die in pool of his own blood!"
John stopped there, he didn't have anything he could say, Yamato was visibly upset now, and John knew that whatever else he could say, could only make things worse for Lydia. John sighed and rested his elbows on the table, he wanted to give Yamato a chance to cool off, and he was tired of the questioning for the moment, he knew of only one thing he could say right now.
"Could I get some water, this conversation has left my throat very dry, and I would like something to wet it before we continue, if you don't mind?"
This wasn't one of John's gambits now, no, John was well past that point, John was at the desperation point now, the point where one slip could spell doom for Lydia, he had to stall, he had to keep Yamato guessing, and he had to hope there was someone, somewhere, who KNEW Lydia was innocent and could PROVE it.

The sounds were in rapid succession as if someone was in a hurry or more so being rushed and without warning the door was opened to reveal a new player in the game of identifying the murder. Whoever it was what were there intentions and but more so were they here for Lydia or for something else.
The first to enter was the housemaid which enter, stepped to the side of the doorway as if to make way then bowed to the investigatior and Lydia. Even tho she was under investigation she was still the housemaids better in every way. Once the maid stepped to the side she revealed a very...handsome man by the Name of Milliardo Yagyu. He stood about 5'10 with leather gauntlets on both hands and missing sleeves which showed that his best asset was his hand to hand skill or hakuda. Taking two steps in the room Milliardo survey the room, glanced at Lydia then turned his attention to the investigator/interrogator.
"I'am Milliardo Yagyu,7th seat of the 6th and representative of Byakuya Kuchiki. I have been ordered to take Lydia Amagumi under my charge until further notice." The mans tone and expression were impassive and direct as he stood with his platinum blond laying neatly behind his shoulders and his light gray eyes shifting to Lydia."I shall be your shadow Milady if you so chose to accepted me"His mannerisms changed to rather fit a nobleman even tho he was far from one as he extended his hand.
With his left hand extended to Lydia Milliardo turned his gaze upon the investigator/interrogator who by this time maybe swelling with anger."As for the murder of your sibling she was not involved for I had been watching her from the shadows by order of my captain. I merely to get approval to enter thy household once she was taken into custody."
Milliardo turned to Lydia once more who by now might have taken his hand. He did not need the approval of the investigator/interrogator for he had his orders and will uphold those orders by any means necessary for that was his way but more so his honor and pride would not allow him to stray from that path. On his guard he prepared to watch over Lydia more closely now that he himself visible as her protector.
"I'am sorry Milady if I offended you by watching you from the shadows but my time in the 2nd has not left me and due to that background I was the perfect choice to making sure you would be safe without cause a stir."
With her his voice was gentle but his impassive expression seemed to never leave him as he spoke to her.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,500px,true]![[image] [image]](http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a345/gohanstrife/NewLydiaPost01.jpg) | [atrb=background,http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a345/gohanstrife/NewLydaPostBar.jpg]It had all happened so fast, or rather, the shock had finally registered in system, forcing her body and mind to sobering up near-instant. The door opened, and with a maid came a man Lydia had never seen before. Long, pale-blond strands and silver hues, the man entered with two steps and announced his presence.
>>"I'am Milliardo Yagyu,7th seat of the 6th and representative of Byakuya Kuchiki. I have been ordered to take Lydia Amagumi under my charge until further notice."
The investigator paused momentarily, obviously displeased that his interrogation had been interrupted. Lydia herself was taken back, unable to truly comprehend what was going on; what was a representative of Kuchiki-Taicho's division doing here? What was their involvement?
>>"As for the murder of your sibling she was not involved for I had been watching her from the shadows by order of my captain. I merely to get approval to enter thy household once she was taken into custody."
Emerald hues would blink in shock, just as the investigator's had. Hope finally seemed to spark upon the young noblewoman's features, like a ray of light cascading over the shadows that loomed heavily upon her shoulders. A hand was extended to her as the man approached, a brief moment's pause was all it took before she grasped the man's hand willingly. So many questions riddled the woman's mind, but nevertheless, she finally found sanity within the chaos. A sigh of relief fell over as she began to stand. No one had seemed to believe her... but finally, someone was able to help shed light on the truth.
>>"I'am sorry Milady if I offended you by watching you from the shadows but my time in the 2nd has not left me and due to that background I was the perfect choice to making sure you would be safe without cause a stir."
Lydia shook her head, indicating she was neither upset nor offended by the man's actions. Despite a slight creepy feeling from being watched, she was thankful that she finally had someone to confirm her story. With evidence piling up and no one else able to help her, it was nothing short of alleviating to finally have someone believing in her. The young Shinigami stood, brows pinched inward, no longer feeling the heavy sensation of fear she had moments ago.
"I see," the investigator stood as well, eyeing both the new arrival and Lydia herself. "If you could be so kind as to wait here one moment then while I confirm this new information."
While a single man confirming Lydia's story should have been enough to grant her some freedom, it was obvious that the man had his suspicions. Nevertheless, Lydia was confident that she could now be released. The man left briefly, allowing the green-haired woman to sink her shoulders. Quite frankly, she was purely exhausted over the entire ordeal. Her uncle... a great man, had been killed. Not only that, but others within her family as well. The fact that her Zanpakuto was found at the scene was still ever troubling, and for the life of her, she couldn't understand why or how it had gotten there.
"...thank you," Lydia breathed out softly, her words barely over a whisper and voice audibly shaking. With her body screaming exhaustion, her mind simply wished to rest, the urge to crawl into her bed and sleep this off like horrifying dream, she knew no such scenario was possible. Rest would certainly not come to her so easily, not until this entire mess was sorted out. Beyond their current room, right next door where John sat, a maid entered, tray in hand where a filled iced water pitcher and a glass rested. She placed both items from the tray onto the table and filled the glass before respectively bowing and vacating the room without so much of a sound or even eye contact. Yamato had long since left the room after John's request to quench his thirst, apparent that he was going to interrogate Lydia herself right next door.
In the hallway, Yamato stood with two other members of the Amagumi family. Within his hands was a single piece of paper, but what was written upon it was held the elder man's focus. It was a letter confirming the information the new arrival had shared, a detailed explanation of the very story Lydia had shared, signed by the Captain himself. His left eye began to twitch as he slowly crumpled up the paper in his grasp. After letting out a forceful grunt of frustration, he turned to the two next to him.
"Let them go..."
"But sir-"
"The Kuchiki Family are one of the highest ranking noble houses. We will honor the words of the head of their family."
Moments later, within both rooms, a member of the Amagumi family appeared, one thanking John for sharing his details of the night, the other also thanking Lydia for her own, though stating that due to the fact her Zanpakuto was currently evidence in the case, she would be unable to obtain it until after the investigation was over. Quite frankly, the young woman wished simply to get out of that room... get out of the estate... just escape it all. Lydia nodded, not expressing a single word to the man before her, and when the pair were finally excused, she let out the breath she had seemed to be holding. She simply wished to get back to the barracks and start to sort out this mess. A moment after the man had left, Lydia followed, leading Milliardo to the hallway where she wound find John, who was also announced free to leave the estate.
"Baker-kun," Lydia breathed out the name, expressing guilt and utter embarrassment over the situation she had dragged him through. "I'm sorry... I..."
She was uncertain what to say, but felt the need to apologize, despite having held no control over the situation.
Notes: To help make the thread flow, I had Yamato sorta just excuse himself after John's request, and the water coming in some time after. Figured this would be the last posting round, but I think we can continue for at least two more so I can introduce a couple more NPC peeps on their way out of the estate and after formal introductions

It wasn't long before a maid entered, tray in hand where a filled iced water pitcher and a glass rested. She placed both items from the tray onto the table and filled the glass before respectively bowing and vacating the room without so much of a sound or even eye contact. Yamato had long since left the room after John's request to quench his thirst. While the cold water, which John could almost tell had to be fresh spring water, was quenching his thirst, it was doing little to ease his stomach, which hurt the more he thought of Lydia and the trouble she was in. Questions raced in his mind as he sat there, unflinching, worried about his new friend, thinking of the accusations against her, trying to imagine the pain she must be feeling, all this made him strangely tense and at the same time, made him feel bad for Lydia.
His sipped the ice water before him, finishing one glass and instantly filling another, trying not to worry, but this was a useless effort.
"Lydia... I wish I knew what was happening..."
Moments later, a member of the Amagumi family appeared, thanking John for sharing his details of the night, and announcing that he was free to leave the estate. He said nothing as he stood, finished his water in the glass and walked from the room and into the hall.
It was here he saw Lydia coming towards him, a look of pure embarrassment on her face. With her he saw someone new, a Shinigami with long blond hair and gray eyes.
"Baker-kun, I'm sorry... I..."
But John held his hand up and stopped her from saying more as he shook his head and smiled to her.
"Save your apologies, for someone who expects one, I'm just glad they let you go and that you're OK... But this whole thing just baffles me."
John took a moment to breath, he was tired, and he was rather tense at the moment, which he knew a little training in the morning would solve, but above his exhaustion and tenseness, he was also curious, and if she wanted, he was more than happy to help her with her problem.
"If you don't mind my company, I'd like to escort you to where ever you're going, just on the safety side of caution, and maybe talk if you need to... I want to help you too, I want to help you catch the real murderer... That is, if you'll let me."
It was sudden, but John had a strong sense of Justice and felt like, even though he only knew Lydia for a short time, he felt he HAD to help her. His smile faded then, as he turned to look at the newcomer that was with them.
"One thing though before we leave... Who are you sir, and what part do YOU play in all this?"
John was blunt, whoever this was, they weren't at the party earlier that night, yet for some reason he was here now.
"Allow me to introduce myself first... I'm John Baker, 9th seat of Squad 13..." The evening had too many questions already, John wanted to leave, as he was sure Lydia probably wanted to leave, but John wasn't rude, and deep down, he felt this this Shinigami, with his gray eyes and noble demeanor, was a bigger piece of this puzzle than anyone let on.

It expected.... a waist of time but expected. After everything was cleared and they were free to go Milliardo escorted Lydia threw the doors, making sure to stay close by just for extra security. He did not trust the noble of this house....he did not trust anyone that was alive for that matter for the only one to ever gain that trust was his brother Kyosuke, but that was another story for another time.
Milliardo stood about 3 steps behind Lydia, making sure to give her space but also making sure that he was close enough to get between her and whatever would try to harm her. This was his job until she relinquished him or until Byakuya commanded him otherwise. It was funny for this was not the first time his skills as a body and assassin have been used to protect someone of significant but at least this time he did not have to do it from the shadows....at least not the whole time.
Another man came from the room next ti Lydia's that seemed to be an acquaintance of hers as they both stepped towards each other to engage in conversation. Milliardo simply stood there for a moment as he watch Lydia, then changed his gaze to survey his surroundings then back to Lydia again as the two spoke.
"If you don't mind my company, I'd like to escort you to where ever you're going, just on the safety side of caution, and maybe talk if you need to... I want to help you too, I want to help you catch the real murderer... That is, if you'll let me."
Milliardo stepped forward once Baker was finished with his request." Your assistance is admirable but not necessary. She is now under my protection, unless she request such a thing bring you along would make you a liability that I will not be responsible for" Milliardo was not trying to be rude but simply spoke what he felt was the truth. If Lydia did request his presence and service then he would have no choice but to comply unless it put her in direct danger.
"One thing though before we leave... Who are you sir, and what part do YOU play in all this?" "Allow me to introduce myself first... I'm John Baker, 9th seat of Squad 13..."
Milliardo paused for a moment. The name John Baker was indeed a name that was concealed in the docile Byakuya handed to him before he set out on his mission to retrieve Lydia from custody. He knew of him or at least what they had on paper concerning him. Nevertheless he was not anyone he had to answer to nor was he above him."Who I'am is of no concern to you but I'am aware of who you are Baker. As I said before Lydia is under my care, you need not concern yourself with this matter any longer unless Milady wishes it."
This would seem rude by regular standards but Milliardo was only speaking fact. Lydia had full control over the situation and if she wished Bakers presence that Milliardo would comply but at the moment Milliardo was in charge of her security. If Baker was to join them then he would be watched closely and if he became a liability then Lydia's choice would be over ruled by Milli.[/style]

With that, the young noblewoman felt a bit of weight lift from her shoulders. His words of understanding were more than a relief for her, yet she couldn't help but feel just as confused and baffled as the man that stood before her. His following offer helped to ease the feeling of hopelessness she had felt moments before the blond stranger had helped her to confirm her story, and with a warm, welcoming smile, she nodded in response. For the moment, however, she simply wished to leave the estate and make her way back to the barracks. She knew all too well how quickly situations like this could be exaggerated through the gossip of other nobles. With everything that had happened thus far, Lydia had long since sobered up, but at this point, simply wished to rest her mind and eyes.
>>"Your assistance is admirable but not necessary. She is now under my protection, unless she request such a thing bring you along would make you a liability that I will not be responsible for."
The noblewoman blinked and shifted her gaze back to the man who had helped her. While she was certainly grateful that someone had been able to aid her in such a grieve situation, she wasn't fond of his added statement. It was her situation to deal with, not his own. He may have been sent on a mission, but John had asked her personally, and while feeling responsible for the entire party's sudden interruption of what had started out as a nice evening, she wasn't about to simply brush her new companion off, especially when he offered help in his own way.
>>"Who I'am is of no concern to you but I'am aware of who you are Baker. As I said before Lydia is under my care, you need not concern yourself with this matter any longer unless Milady wishes it."
>>"One thing though before we leave... Who are you sir, and what part do YOU play in all this? Allow me to introduce myself first... I'm John Baker, 9th seat of Squad 13..."
"Apologies; this man is Yagyu, Milliardo," Lydia hastily followed the man's second statement, which by now forced a light twitch of her left brow, and introduced the man to help move things along quicker, more evidence that she just wanted to hurry up and get back to the Gotei. "Seventh seat of Squad six. He was sent here by Kuchiki-Taicho ... Apparently, the two have been keeping up on this investigation. Yagyu-kun was able to confirm my alibi, which was what persuaded them to let me go. I would certainly enjoy your company a bit further, Baker-kun, until we are to reach the Gotei barracks."
With that, she turned to the other man next to her, brows pinched inward. Yes, she was grateful for his sudden appearance, and while it certainly did seem a bit suspicious to her that this man would suddenly appear to help her out, at least she was finally out of that room and free to go... for the time being.
"I appreciate your aid in this situation, Yagyu-kun," Lydia stated firmly and bowed her head respectively. "I wish simply to return to the Gotei barracks and speak with your Captain to help better understand the entirety of the situation. I fear I will not be well informed if I remain here. Let us make haste," the woman finalized as she turned around and began to lead the way back down the long hallway.
At the moment, Lydia wasn't certain who she could really trust. From the strange invitations to the party, to the stealing of her Zanpakuto and now her own sword being used in the murder of one of her own family members. Things were far too chaotic to make any sense currently. Nevertheless, she knew staying in the Amagumi home would only make it easier for whomever was attempting to conspire against her. Once she returned to the barracks, she could at least find out whatever Yagyu and Kuchiki-Taicho knew, since apparently, it was far more than she.
A mix of frustration and humiliation filtered through her expression upon reaching the main entrance way and into the courtyard. All conversations seemed to stop simultaneously with all heads turning in hush toward the green haired woman. The sudden attention forced her to hesitant mid-step. Faintly, she could hear questionable whispers, doubtful murmurs, and could feel accusing stars throughout those in attendance. Lydia swallowed hard, closed her eyes and with a deep breath, opened her vision and continued to step forward.
"Lydia-chan..." Lydia shifted the gaze to the familiar, and at the moment, comforting voice. The tall, slender woman with long, forest-green strands reaching far down her back, ending nearly at mid-calf met the party half-way and collected Lydia's hands within her own. Were her actions not enough, the resemblance between the two were obvious. While certainly appearing older than Lydia herself, her mother was certainly a woman of pure beauty. "Lydia-chan... what's going on? Your Father and I just heard... "
"I am uncertain of the full story at this time," the young Shinigami replied wearily, her eyes unable to stop shifting from the faint words carrying over from the wind. "All I know is that someone killed Hachiru-sama and attempted to frame me by using my sword."
"Oh Lydia-chan," her mother cried in a whisper as she tightened her grip. "Your father and your brothers are doing everything they can right now to help straighten things out. We know you could never have done something like this."
"Thank you, Mother..." The young Shinigami felt a bit of the tension leave her. It was good to know at least one of her family members could see with certainty. "I'll be returning to the barracks now. Hopefully, I'll be able to figure out more there."
"You're not staying?" Lydia's mother blinked in surprise. "But dear, if someone out there is targeting you, the safest place you can be is within these walls."
"I need to report to one of the Captains," Lydia explained. She was already suspicious enough. With two deaths within the Amagumi clan thus far being declared as murders, and the family themselves running the investigation without aid of the Gotei 13, the young Shinigami herself wouldn't feel comfortable sleeping within the estate. "I'll send word once I know more..."
"Please... be careful," her mother leaned in close. "You know I hate it when you stay away for too long."
"It's customary for Shinigami to remain in the barracks, Mother, you know this," Lydia informed her, knowing that the elder woman also hated the fact that she had chosen to become a Shinigami at all. "But for now, I will be keeping my visits to a minimum... until everything is sorted out."
Lydia bowed her head respectively and turned from her mother, toward the large double-door gates. The murmurs and whispers continued, even after the gates closed behind them. As soon as they closed, the woman's shoulders slumped, expressing obvious exhaustion.
"Let's just make it back to the barracks..." Lydia explained, concluding she wished not to speak of the matter nor her family until she spoke with Kuchiki-Taicho personally...

"Captain Kuchiki set this guy...?"
John wasn't sure how to react at this point, everyone in the Gotai 13 knew that Captain Byakuya Kuchiki was the head of one of the 4 great noble families, and if he had sent Milliardo to save Lydia, it meant that things were obviously much worse than anyone could have guessed.
I would certainly enjoy your company a bit further, Baker-kun, until we are to reach the Gotei barracks."
"Alright Lydia, say no more and lets get out of here... I feel like I've already overstayed my welcome.
Lydia also turned her attention to Milliardo at this point and addressed him as well.
"I appreciate your aid in this situation, Yagyu-kun, I wish simply to return to the Gotei barracks and speak with your Captain to help better understand the entirety of the situation. I fear I will not be well informed if I remain here. Let us make haste,"
"Good idea... Besides, I want to see what Captain Kuchiki knows about this situation too."
John could tell that with everything else, Lydia didn't want anymore trouble, so he kept any thoughts about Milliardo to himself as Lydia led the way out of the estate.
John couldn't help but feel that, even with the proof being presented that Lydia was innocent, everyone still doubted her and thought she must be guilty. Hushed whispers and glares from everyone only proceeded to escalate his feelings of this, and he was weary of it.
Once they neared the main gates, a female voice called to Lydia, and from the similar apperence between its owner and Lydia, John could only assume it was a close family member, maybe even her Mother.
"Lydia-chan... what's going on? Your Father and I just heard... "
"I am uncertain of the full story at this time... All I know is that someone killed Hachiru-sama and attempted to frame me by using my sword."
John refrained from speaking this whole time, he didn't want to say anything to upset anyone, and kept his words and thoughts to himself as Lydia spoke.
"Oh Lydia-chan, Your father and your brothers are doing everything they can right now to help straighten things out. We know you could never have done something like this."
"Thank you, Mother... I'll be returning to the barracks now. Hopefully, I'll be able to figure out more there."
John nodded his head once, mostly to himself, to assure himself that Lydia would make it to the barracks, and also because he was right to assume this woman was Lydia's mother.
"You're not staying? But dear, if someone out there is targeting you, the safest place you can be is within these walls."
"I need to report to one of the Captains, I'll send word once I know more..."

John too let out a sigh of relief as the gates closed, and then turned to Lydia.
"So what do we do now, Lydia?"
"Let's just make it back to the barracks..."
"Ok Lydia, lead on and I'll follow."
John didn't want to assume what Milliardo was going to do, but he knew one thing, he was involved from the moment that invitation reached his hand, and he was going to help Lydia in any way he could.
"I wonder what I've gotten myself into this time?"
John shook his head and followed Lydia towards the Barracks, unsure of what awaited them, and unsure how it would effect him.

Even tho he had already told Baker that his assistance was not needed he still need to wait for the decision of his charge and to which she over ruled him. "As you wish Milady". Milliardo was not upset nor did he care that Baker was now along for the ride, his job was to protect Lydia and until he effected that he was of no concern.
Making sure to walk 3 steps behind Lydia Milliardo escorted her out of the noble home. Once outside they walked down the stairs that lead to the main entry gate until he heard foot steps coming from behind.Looking over his right shoulder out the corner of his eye he could see a older women looking almost exactly like Lydia."She must be the mother." He stepped to the side to reveal Lydia but also to let the siblings talk.
He surveyed the area as they talked, being sure to be on his guard just in case the mother herself was in on the clouded affair."Lydia-chan... what's going on? Your Father and I just heard... "With those words heard Milliardo was curious. How did the mother not know that her own daughter was being held in there own home for questioning? He did not state his opinion for it was not his place to.This was a noble affair and he was only involved by orders not by choice or lineage.
Once there convo was done he simply nodded at the noble women then gestured Lydia to move on threw the entry gates.Once they were a meter or two away from the gates Lydia and Baker began to talk.
"So what do we do now, Lydia?"
"Let's just make it back to the barracks..."
"Ok Lydia, lead on and I'll follow." Milliardo walked beside Lydia and brought up both of his arms about sternum height and equally leveled."If you please Milady" Milliardo want to carry Lydia to the barracks. It would make sure they didn't get separated while they shunpo'd to the barracks and it would make sure she didn't have to try and keep up while shunpoing. If she did not wish it then he would simply walk her all the way there .Either way made no difference, she was his charge and would see that she is properly taken care of and protected.
"If I have over stepped my boundaries then please take my apology for I mean no disrespect but carrying you to the barracks would be faster, safer and easier to protect you if things turn for the worst. My body is your shield and sword until this ordeal is done."His tone was gentle with the young noble for she has been threw a great deal, even with Milliardo's impassive expression his chivalrous nature could be seen clear as day as he slightly bowed his head until she gave and answer. "Goro Amagumi... and the latest victim, Hachiru Amagumi..." Lydia repeated the names held within the report she received from Kuchiki-Taicho, spreading the files she had been given along the surface of the table held within the meeting room. Along with those files, the nobleman had also provided a safe haven of sorts for the Amagumi family member, allowing her a place to process the information she could not retrieve from her family without fear of rousing further suspicion. She feared someone within her own family may have been behind not only these attacks, but hold responsibility for attempting to frame Lydia herself. While at first she may have wanted to rest, those tired eyes had read the reports over and over throughout the night until sunlight began shinning through the guest bedroom assigned for her. As she had suspected that morning, both Milliardo and John had stayed as well, the former already having a place within the barracks and offering his own services of remaining close to the noblewoman. While at first a bit cautious to his intentions, when Byakuya had revealed his own findings, the green haired Shinigami could only fear the unknown conspirer behind it all. Despite breakfast being provided, the young Shinigami found little in her appetite, picking lightly at her plate while reviewing the files.
"Goro-sama was the family's chief adviser," the noblewoman continued, sipping a bit of the tea place before her. "He was a well respected man, holding the position for several generations. He was well loved by all members of the family. His... his death was first assumed of natural causes due to his age, but after the second victim, evidence was discovered upon autopsy that poison was found in his system. There was no evidence of such found at the scene, nor anywhere in or around his home."
Goro-sama had been like a grandfather to Lydia. It had been Goro that had pushed Lydia to continue her training, despite her mother's protests of a female Guardian. Lydia never truly saw eye-to-eye with her mother, especially when it came to her own life and goals. While the young Shinigami had dreamed of becoming a strong, capable warrior like her father, her mother wished nothing more than for her daughter to become a proper woman of nobility, marrying her off to a man of noble status. Upon numerous occasions, Lydia found herself blindsided at their family's banquets, her mother introducing her to countless potential suitors. She always found comfort with Goro, who would immediately come to her aid when she needed it, pointing out the flaws of the men her mother had chosen and brushing them aside. His death had certainly pained Lydia greatly. There was evidence of heavy emotion whenever she spoke of him.
"Hachiru-sama was in charge of the family's finances," Lydia continued, having taken a brief moment to properly conduct herself. "He worked closely with Goro-sama, kept records of all purchases and banquet spending. He was murdered the night of our gathering, coincidentally, the time when I stepped out from the restaurant. All records of the family's financials were missing from his office. There were obvious signs of forced entry, though I suspect the reason behind this was to frame me originally for the crime. If the person behind this wanted, they could have left no evidence behind, like they did with the first murder."
Hachiru-sama hadn't been well known by the young Shinigami. Lydia only saw the man as someone who was constantly beside the family's Head Clan member, similar to Goro-sama. He would rarely converse during party events, and as such, she knew little about him. Aside from what was written on paper, there wasn't much else she knew to share. As she prepared the second folder, Lydia placed the teacup down and began to filter through the pages. It was difficult for her to read some of the information collected, to know that her own family was being spied upon. Nevertheless, if someone within her family was behind all of this, there was little solace in finding refuge back home.
"Tsubaki Amagumi, current leader of the Amagumi Clan," the woman said as she pulled his file out next and placed it onto the table next to the others. "Tsubaki-dono has been in charge of the Amagumi families for four generations. Goro-sama was his youngest blood-related brother, and Hachiru-sama was adopted into the family by him. Tsubaki-dono handles all the affairs of the clan. No family is able to join the Amagumi line without his final approval. Should Tsubaki-dono come to pass, or should he choose to retire, then this man is lined to take his place."
Lydia paused briefly as she took out the next page of the report. The name, along with the picture, forced her to take a breath and a moment's pause before placing it too upon the table.
"Kenta Amagumi, my father," Lydia explained. "While Goro-sama was next in line for the title, upon his death, my father took his place. He is currently in charge of training the Guardians of the family; those responsible for security and protection of the family members and manor itself. Then... there's him..."
Once more, Lydia pulled another file from the folder, this one certainly more recognizable than those previously mentioned.
"Yamato Amagumi," she continued. "He acts as the second-in-command, head of all security and Guardians. Upon graduating my father's training, all Guardians report to him for active duty and service responsibilities. He is the one currently in charge of the investigation, and Goro-sama's only son."
Lydia had never really liked Yamato. Like her mother, Yamato discouraged all sense of training Lydia took within her family, despite his own father's opinion of the matter. Her mother and Yamato certainly shared in the hectic struggle she faced when she had finally decided to join the Shinigami Academy. While at first she had wished to become a Guardian, following not only the path of her father but of her brothers, it was Yamato that had encouraged her mother to try and talk her out of it, stating that women of the Amagumi family held no place in the battlefield. Ultimately, after a great many family quarrels, she had opted to join the Academy instead, wishing to do her father and Goro-sama proud.
"If there's anything you wish to ask about these people, then I shall answer to the best of my ability." Not wanting to dwell on too much information too fast, Lydia set the folder next to her and lifted her cup once more to sip. She had gone through all the pages throughout the night and early morning, evidence of sleep depravity with the dark patches under her eyes. She could do little but feel victimized over the entire ordeal; to think that one of her own family members could have been behind this... she shook her head as her eyes closed, a moment taken to clear her mind. There were still so many others within her family that weren't mentioned in the report, and still more to be mentioned. For the time being, however, she desired to at least express those most important to the family. Lydia feared if the killer was targeting both Goro and Hachiru for a reason, then it was possible those she mentioned could have been next on the list. He turned to Lydia after checking the outside then walked to the door again, standing to the left of the entry way and folding his hands behind his back."I shall be blunt.Your father Kenta and Yamato Amagumi could very well be the next's ones to fall....or they themselves could be behind it all. To Milliardo this was not a moment to be naive about the situation, everyone was a suspect until proven otherwise and since Lydia has been proven in his eyes she herself had been written off the list of likely people. His impassive expression but stern tone may have made him appear heartless but to him it was time for her to realize that now was the time to gather herself and fight back. She had the means and she had the muscle(himself and Baker) so it was time to utilize such resources.
"I understand if your feel that I'am being to forward but that is the only way I know how to be Milady.Just know that I will protect you from any and all dangers that I possibly can and will follow you where ever you feel you need to go."Milliardo slanted grey eyes looked upon her,for a moment there was gentleness in his eyes as his eyes looked into hers. But the moment had passed as his gaze turned cold once again, like that of a wolf on the hunt.[/style]

After Lydia had finished speaking, John simply stood there for a moment. It was hard to believe that anyone within her family could be behind these murders, as from her explanation many were very close to one another.
John was gathering his thoughts when Milliardo broke the silence and spoke, bluntly.
"I shall be blunt. Your father Kenta and Yamato Amagumi could very well be the next's ones to fall....or they themselves could be behind it all. What is stopping your father from influencing Yamato to do his dirty work for him? In another perspective Yamato has the most to gain if he were the culprit but then again so does your father."
John pondered that for a moment, was it indeed possiable that Yamato or Lydia's father was the culprit? Before John could speak his mind, Milliardo continued.
"I understand if your feel that I'm being to forward but that is the only way I know how to be Milady. Just know that I will protect you from any and all dangers that I possibly can and will follow you where ever you feel you need to go."
John spoke right away this time, as to not be interrupted and turned to Milliardo.
"I have to say, unless he is an incredible actor, I don't think Yamato could be the one we're looking for... The very thought of someone else besides Lydia having committed the murders, until you arrived, made him visibly upset... As for Lydia's father, what does he really have to gain by murdering members of his own family?"
John gave that a thought for a moment, but a revelation suddenly hit him and he turned to Lydia.
"Although, I guess on the same note, who better to be a murdered than the very person who is investigating them?"
John knew he was going to start helping less and less, the more he spoke, so he instead offered a better idea. He had a thought as they left the estate last night, but kept it to himself as not to disturb Lydia until she had fully calmed down and been informed of the situation.
"I think maybe we should conduct our own investigation into this matter, see what we can find on our own..."
John paused for a moment and then continued.
"I may not say it as nobly as Milliardo, but I'm here to help, and I'll protect you too, Lydia... Until we find out who is really behind this, I'm here to help in any way I can...Plus, if Milliardo thinks your Father or even Yamato could be the next targets, we should keep an eye on any strange developments or movement within your family."
John was worried now, it was actually possible that whoever was targeting members of Lydia's family, could easily target those close to them, which by effect put himself and Milliardo, whether he knew it or not, in very real danger.

A tired sigh escaped parted lips as her focus seemed to remain more upon the papers and reports scattered across the table than the conversation. Despite her explanation, the pain in her chest was still ever present; someone was attempting to frame her... someone whom she trusted... one of her own. Emerald hues closed briefly as Milliardo spoke his opinion, with the young noblewoman visibly wincing to the man's accusation and possibility that her father could have been the man behind it all. She wanted to scream in an instant, just as she had to herself throughout the night as she ruffled through endless sheets of piled papers, attempting to make sense of what could only be perceived as complete and utter chaos.
"Thank you both. I think the best thing for me now is to stay within the barracks," Lydia concluded to the pair who seemed eager to protect her. While she did feel comfort in knowing there were people who wanted to help, knowing that someone within her family was attempting to cause her harm filled her with a truly violated feeling, one that coursed through her spine and alluded sleep. Not only that, but it was her own family's affair. To have near strangers aiding her in finding the culprit, while she was glad to have someone believing in her, gave no aid to the depression of knowing that, for the time being, she would have to keep herself separated from those she loved. "No matter who's behind this all, I'll be safer here than returning home..."
A hand moved up to rub her dark circled eyes as she attempted to push her exhaustion aside with a light shake of her head. Heavy accusations were cast upon her family, but it had been something she had been mulling over hours prior to their early morning meeting. Her father, a man whom she respected, loved, and cared so for deeply ... to cast this feeling of doubt upon him... she hadn't realized just how heavy a burden it would bring until it brought her shoulders to a slump and her palms to press against the table. No, her father couldn't be behind any of this. He wasn't a man seeking power or authority. She knew her father was a man who did not wish for strength due to power, but instead for protection, which had brought him to become a teacher for all Guardians.
Yamato... Lydia herself couldn't see the man acting through a mask throughout the entirety of that interrogation and even beyond that. Nevertheless, the way her fellow family members were being targeted, it only concluded the possibility that someone was attempting to take control of the family. While an outside source was always possible, the fact that the culprit had taken the time to set Lydia up... why her? Why have her take the blame, out of others that could have been targeted? Surely, that too had to hold just as much meaning as the murder themselves.
Another heavy sigh was released following a shake of her head and rub of her temples. Lydia had always been a logical thinker, and was always able to see a variety of perspectives. She understood that the connections she held with these people clouded her judgement, but she simply could not see anyone in her family actually being behind this, at least, not those close to her. Guilt plagued her thoughts throughout the night and even now as she had attempted to sort out a possible 'list' of 'suspects' who could have been behind it all; those who had the most to gain, and perhaps, those who could have been targeted next. All night, the only thing she could think of was who had been behind it all, who had murdered the man who had been like a grandfather to her, who had wanted to frame her?
But... at the current moment, she just couldn't think or even see straight. Until early morning, she had spent hours going over the reports, her logical side trying desperately to find out the facts, as well as hope to find the culprit or any clues that could point her in that direction. A night of drinking followed by a night of quickly sobering upon discovery of being framed for murder, murder of a man she truly cared for... spending hours ruffling through papers and reports provided by a man who seemed to have started his own investigation of her family... only now was it starting to weigh down on her... the reality of the situation. Slowly, it was sinking in... and providing a stone mask over her deteriorating resolve was hard enough.
"If this was an act to achieve power, that doesn't explain the missing financial records," Lydia once more pushed her feelings to the back burner and leaned forward to neaten the papers upon the table. "Important financial documents that reported the last six months of transactions for the family were missing from Hachiru-sama's estate. I can see the culprit going after specific victims... but why frame me? Why not frame a higher official instead? Surely it may be a harder target, but... if I was really framed to such an extent, that means the person knew the party was set up for me... followed me there... or set it up themselves... why go to all that trouble just to frame someone?"
There were too many variables, not enough information to make sense of it all. Not only was the frustration of being unable to get anywhere with what she had thus far getting to her, but the feeling of being so careless in her actions... losing her Zanpakuto, something she would never do... had she been more aware of her surroundings, something that had been constantly drilled into her training sessions, perhaps... perhaps she could have stopped it from happening. "If this was an act to achieve power, that doesn't explain the missing financial records, Important financial documents that reported the last six months of transactions for the family were missing from Hachiru-sama's estate.
"That is the part that we need to figure out... The only possibilities I can come up with, is that whoever framed you either has a grudge against you, or knows that as a Shinigami, you're the only one with enough strength to stop them, which says either way they need you out of there way."
John hoped not to confuse or upset Lydia with his comment, but he had to say something, anything to try and make sense of the events that had transpired.
"I know you're upset about what happened, and I know I've said it before but I'll say it again, I'll help you find who did this, and bring them to justice... You just have to trust me that I can."
John gave Lydia a smile at this point and looked out the window at the rising sun, its beams shining in the window. Milliardo hadn't said anything and simply stood watch, often going to gaze out the window.
"We should plan our next move, we can't stay here forever and wait for something else to happen, and while I'm sure you'll say you don't want to get me involved, I was involved the moment I decided to attend that party, and that means I'm at your disposal until we solve this mystery... So Lydia, what do you think we should do next?"
John wanted to reassure Lydia where his loyalty was, and reassure her that he would be there to help, he wanted to help, or maybe, he HAD to help.

John's reassuring words were indeed helpful, and despite the heavy weight she felt upon her shoulders, she was glad to know at least that much. It became a bit easier to breathe, but the fact that someone had attempted to frame her for something she could never see herself doing still plagued her. For the life of her, she couldn't imagine anyone in her family acting so rashly. While she didn't get along with a few of the members, others never really seeing eye-to-eye, she just couldn't think of a single one of them destroying the trust members of the family had with one another. A slender hand attempted once more to keep those long jade strands from her field of view and tucked the looser ones behind her ear. This type of development seemed like something out of one of her novels; a murder shrouded in mystery. This wasn't fiction, though, far from it. The people were real... people she knew... people she cared for.
Milliardo had gone quiet, leaving the conversing between John and herself. For a moment, the young noblewoman allowed her eyes to close as she attempted to sort out her thoughts. They certainly needed to develop some sort of plan. It was obvious that if she continued to sit and do nothing, other people could be targeted. Whoever was after her, it was quite apparent they weren't going to stop. They had already gone through quite a bit of trouble. Who knows what their next move was?
"The invitations," Lydia blinked her eyes opened as she reached into the inner lining of her robes where she had kept the strange mail piece she received the previous day. "I originally thought that one of my brothers or mother had initially set up that party."
The penmanship was quite fancy, what one would find when invited to a social gathering run by those of noble status. Card-stock paper with a flower-patterned frame around the corners, Lydia had taken notice prior to the roses scattered about the frame. Instead of red, however, they were green, which while rare, just so happened to be one of her favorite flowers. She had her own garden back at home, a small one in comparison to her mothers. Still, it was one of her favorite places within the noble estate. Once more, she began to read the invitation, hoping that something would stand out;
Lady Lydia Amagumi,
You are Cordially invited to a Social Event at Yakitori Lounge In the Northern District of Seireitei.
Food and Drink will be provided. Festivities will Begin at Sundown.
Nothing had initially seemed suspicious from the harmless letter. She had assumed that her mother was once again attempting to persuade her into some sort of arranged marriage, which resulted in Lydia being the only female among the group. Still, the party had to be apart of the plan, right? They couldn't have retrieved her sword without knowing where she would have been... unless she had been followed. The thought sent a shiver down her spine as she flipped the invitation over, her name printed in the same calligraphy on the other side with larger green-rose printed pattern underlining her name. Aside from one of her favorite color of rose, nothing else seemed to stand out.
"John-kun," Lydia raised her eyes. Unfortunately, the others involved in the party had long since dispersed after questioning. Hopefully, the only other that had attended still had his invitation. "Do you still have yours?"

"The invitations..."
Lydia blinked her eyes opened as she reached into the inner lining of her robes and pulled out the invitation.
"I originally thought that one of my brothers or mother had initially set up that party."
As she set the invitation on the table, John looked at it, he had noticed on his own the fine penmanship and the unusual pattern. He looked carefully at it as she did.
Lady Lydia Amagumi,
You are Cordially invited to a Social Event at Yakitori Lounge In the Northern District of Seireitei.
Food and Drink will be provided. Festivities will Begin at Sundown.
It wasn't until Lydia spoke again he had even given it another thought.
"John-kun, do you still have yours?"
"As a matter of fact I do, i had completely forgotten about it until you said something."
John slowly reached into the inner part of his robe where he produced the invitation he had received and set it on the table next to Lydia's and compared the two. At first, nothing stood out except the fact that John's was addressed to him by name and squad, as where Lydia's was addressed more formally, using the honorific 'Lady' before her name.
John Baker of Squad 13,
You are Cordially invited to a Social Event at Yakitori Lounge In the Northern District of Seireitei.
Food and Drink will be provided. Festivities will Begin at Sundown.
"I had thought, at first, that a friend of mine, named Kyra, had sent the invitation as a clever method of convincing me to go drinking with her again, as a practical joke, because we hadn't met in a while."
John gave pause at the mention of Kyra, and the realization he hadn't seen her in quite a long time, but continued.
"Once I arrived and didn't see her, my next thought was that I had been invited by mistake."
John took a moment to look over each invitation and then looked at Lydia, a question forming in his mind, which he had no issue with speaking.
"The pattern around the edge... Green roses... Does that mean anything to you?"
John wasn't sure why, but the only and best clue he could find, is that whoever made out the invitations used Green Roses, which was not what one thought of when one thought of Roses. In fact, John couldn't recall if he had even ever heard of a green rose.

| ![[image] [image]](http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a345/gohanstrife/longside.png) | | Lydia Amagumi Realization[justify]
>>"As a matter of fact I do, i had completely forgotten about it until you said something."
It was a long shot; the party could have just been a coincidence after all. And, if it hadn't, there might not even be any sort of hint or clue within the invitations themselves. Such negativity was hard to push aside as the man retrieved a similar appearing invitation from his robes and placed it upon the table next to Lydia's own. Her eyes scanned the small card, the two holding the same content as her own. Aside from the address, everything else was the same, even down to the roses that bordered the invitation.
>>"I had thought, at first, that a friend of mine, named Kyra, had sent the invitation as a clever method of convincing me to go drinking with her again, as a practical joke, because we hadn't met in a while. Once I arrived and didn't see her, my next thought was that I had been invited by mistake."
There was a faint, distant pull of familiarity as John spoke, her eyes shifting from the invitation as he mentioned a name she hadn't heard in quite some time. Kyra... she blinked a few times, attempting to call upon the memory that sparked this sensation.
'Kyra; I know, it's a strange name for a woman...'
Her cousin's voice came to mind, a voice she hadn't heard since her untimely death. The young noblewoman's throat tightened. That one comment was followed by several more, all from her cousin, speaking of this 'Kyra' whom she still had never met to this day. Her cousin had spoken often of her, though mostly complaints of her laziness. Despite Lydia's questioning of why she would befriend such a character, she recalled her response as 'Well... she has a good heart. Her priorities just need a little adjusting... that's all.' Lydia shook her head once more, such memories at the moment weren't helping the situation any. Her eyes refocused upon the invitations, attempting to spot out any differences between the two. They were pretty much identical.
>>"The pattern around the edge... Green roses... Does that mean anything to you?"
"They're a fairly rare breed of flower," Lydia spoke as she picked up both invitations to inspect more closely. "I have some within my garden at home... they're one of my favorite flowers, though many within my family are aware of that."
The only thing she had to go on was that the person who had sent out the invitations knew her favorite flower. It held no connection to the murders, and could still hold the possibility of it all just being a coincidence. The one who had taken her Zanpakuto in order to plant at the scene of the crime could have simply followed her to the restaurant and waited for her to drop her guard. There was no guarantee that she would have excused herself like she had during the party, nor the event of her meeting the child-wait. Lydia blinked, a thought coming to pass, but was just as quickly dismissed. Her internal mystery writer was always good at coming up with theories, but such a thought was certainly better left with her own novels.
The only thing she could have been certain of was that the party was intended for her. There had only been one person she had known, and it was merely an acquainted at that. Lydia, while certainly a woman of nobility, never really held much of a connection with people. Social events had been one of her greatest weaknesses, which was why she worked so diligently with her martial arts training. With her mother's constant pestering of her only daughter wasting her time with such a violent occupation, suggesting instead to simply marry herself off, Lydia had assumed that the woman had been the one behind the party. Then again, she wouldn't have put it passed her brothers either. The twins were certainly well known for pulling such pranks just to annoy their younger sister.
"The party might have just been a coincidence," Lydia explained with a shake of her head, disappointed that they weren't getting anywhere. Her eyes began to sting and she motioned her left hand to rub them with her thumb and index finger, simultaneously fighting the slight ache that had developed early in the morning between her brows, and only continued to increase due to her rising frustration. "I could have just been followed, and whoever was behind it was just waiting for me to drop my guard in order to pin the murder on me... but then again, why wouldn't they just try for another accident, like the first one? Why stage this one as a murder, but the first one as a possible accident? Though I suppose if more than one of the Amagumi members of that rank would perish, it would only be expected that a more thorough investigation be ran..."
She felt as though she were talking herself into circles. The young woman let out a frustrated, sharp breath and attempted to refocus her thoughts. What about the guest list... they were all Shinigami, though only two of whom she knew. Some were seated members, others were unseated and of various divisions. It was like someone just randomly picked them out. Aside from being all male Shinigami, what other connections were there? One had been in her division, though she had only encountered once briefly during a division event. The other she had stumbled upon once during the later hours. He ended up taking her to a bakery, though hadn't heard much from him since then. The others were complete strangers to her. Though, as her eyes turned to John, the man did seem to have a connection to her as well. It was a rather far stretch; a friend of a friend of a cousin... once more, it seemed like something that would come from one of her novels-
"Wait..." Lydia blinked. Such a connection seemed familiar to her, or rather, an encounter of such. A man and woman, who had never met before, held only the connection of a lost soul. They held a rather chance encounter with one another; such a plot was certainly familiar to her. She had used a connection such as that to tie two of her stories together, bringing two main characters from different novels together to form a coexisting sequel to both stories. The male and female leads of one book had attempted to track down the killer of the female's friend. In the end, the two ended up finding the culprit, though the woman was never developed enough through the story to be considered a romantic interest for the male lead. In her second installment, she had attempted to create a new character, one connected to the woman who had passed in the first book. Quite frankly, it had been a dedication to her recently deceased cousin. She ended up tying the two books together for a third novelization, and had only released it a month ago for the Seireitei Communication.
It was another series of murders that had brought the two leads together. Lydia hadn't made any sort of connection to her stories only due to the fact that the murders themselves didn't match her story. Not only that, but her mind was far more logical than fiction allowed. While certainly passionate about her writing, she was well able to separate fantasy from reality. Stories were just stories, real life was real. Still, the more she thought about the plot lines for her novels, the more things started to stand out. The two had met at a rather extravagant ball, hosted by the female's family. While murder and deceit certainly play a large role in the story, the main female was never framed for murder. Not only that, but poison was never used in her stories either. The young woman scratched the back of her head as she tried to clear the frustrating rush of thoughts that continued to pile up. They were starting to become too jumbled together, the mix of overall stress adding with the inability to sleep the night before seeming to effect her focus.
"I thought it may have had something to do with some writing I had been doing for the Seireitei Communication," Lydia finally spoke after her silent thought process, though shook her head. "There are only small connections here and there, but it's pretty far-fetched... not only that, but I write anonymously... no one in my family even knows I write. Not even my other squad members."
In fact, Lydia had only shared her writings with her cousin. Aside from those she knew within the division that ran the newsletter and helped her to publish her work under a false name, those before her were the only other living souls that knew she wrote anything, let alone had actual work published. Again, the whole thing felt like too far of a stretch; was she really so desperate she was grasping at straws without a single shred of evidence? She pinched the bridge of her nose and let out one more sigh.
"I apologize," Lydia shook her head as she forced herself to stand, the breakfast that had been laid out for them having never been touched by the woman. "My mind's not able to focus fully on this. Yagyu-kun; would it be alright to occupy one of the baths? I think I just need to clear my head a bit..."
